The 82nd Golden Globe Awards celebrated the best films and series, with "The Brutalist," "Emilia Pérez," and "Shōgun" standing out as major winners.

Hollywood’s awards season officially kicked off with the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, held on Sunday at the iconic Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The evening was filled with powerful speeches, emotional tributes, and a remarkable variety of winners across film and television

The ceremony, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, made history as the first edition led solely by a woman. The night also shone with the presence of presenters like Viola Davis, Andrew Garfield, Michelle Yeoh, Nicolas Cage, and Anya Taylor-Joy, among others. 

Ted Danson received the Carol Burnett Award in recognition of his outstanding television career, while Viola Davis was honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, joining a distinguished list of icons such as Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep. 

In cinema, The Brutalist won Best Motion Picture – Drama, while Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez triumphed in the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. These wins confirmed both films as frontrunners on the road to the Oscars. 

Adrien Brody earned Best Actor in a Drama for The Brutalist, and Fernanda Torres brought pride to Brazil with her win as Best Actress in a Drama for I’m Still Here.

In comedy, Demi Moore took Best Actress for The Substance, while Sebastian Stan was awarded Best Actor for A Different Man

The directing prize went to Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, reinforcing the film’s critical acclaim. The award for Best Screenplay was given to Peter Straughan for Conclave, a gripping political thriller that resonated strongly with voters. 

In the international category, Emilia Pérez won Best Non-English Language Film, outshining acclaimed titles such as I’m Still Here and The Girl with the Needle. For animation, Flow took home the trophy, celebrated for its creativity and emotional depth. 

Award-winning series and television shows

On television, Shōgun emerged victorious as Best Drama Series, while Baby Reindeer was honored as Best Limited Series. In comedy, the beloved Hacks once again claimed the prize for Best Comedy Series, proving its lasting appeal. 

Individual performances also stood out: Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor in a Drama for Shōgun, with co-star Anna Sawai recognized as Best Actress. Jeremy Allen White repeated his success in The Bear, winning Best Actor in a Comedy, while Jean Smart shone once again with her acclaimed role in Hacks

In limited series, Colin Farrell’s performance in The Penguin earned him Best Actor, while Jodie Foster was honored as Best Actress for True Detective: Night Country. Jessica Gunning was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in Baby Reindeer, and Tadanobu Asano claimed Best Supporting Actor for Shōgun

Overall, the Golden Globe Awards 2025 highlighted the diversity and talent shaping the industry today, while setting the stage for the highly anticipated awards season leading up to the Oscars.
