BBVA expands to 11,000 ChatGPT licenses to boost productivity with OpenAI artificial intelligence

BBVA has expanded its partnership with OpenAI, increasing from 3,300 to 11,000 ChatGPT Enterprise licenses available for its employees.

The move aims to bring generative artificial intelligence capabilities across the organization, enhancing productivity and fostering internal innovation.

Employees report that automating routine tasks with ChatGPT saves nearly three hours per week, time they can dedicate to strategic activities. Over 80% of licensed users access the tool daily.

In May 2024, BBVA started collaborating with OpenAI, offering 3,300 licenses of ChatGPT Enterprise, the corporate version with enhanced security and privacy. One year later, after assessing the positive impact of artificial intelligence on team efficiency, the bank nearly quadrupled the contract to 11,000 licenses.

According to BBVA’s Global AI Adoption team, employees using ChatGPT to automate tasks report an average savings of 2.8 hours per week.

The platform has enabled the creation of over 3,000 personalized assistants or ‘bots’ that perform translations, document summaries, report generation, and more complex functions like financial analysis, coding support, and marketing campaign enhancement.

“The tool’s recommendation score is near maximum, reflecting the value it has provided in just one year,” says Elena Alfaro, Global Head of AI Adoption at BBVA. “The expansion responds to high internal demand, as many business areas across countries have expressed interest in integrating artificial intelligence into their teams.”

Antonio Bravo, Global Head of Data, states that these tools not only improve productivity but will transform how BBVA operates daily, integrating them responsibly and securely.

Besides licenses, BBVA provides training to ensure safe and confidential use of data. It has also created a practice community with periodic meetings and web forums for sharing knowledge and useful resources. The internal GPT Store library grants access to over 1,000 assistants available across the organization.

BBVA also promotes internal innovation through initiatives like the BBVA Bot Talent hackathon in Mexico, which received over 170 ideas. The winning projects will develop solutions to improve customer service, speed up SME loan approvals, and detect fraud using automated message analysis.

With this expansion, BBVA reinforces its commitment to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, enabling employees to fully leverage ChatGPT for strategic and creative tasks.
