Available this month for all users in the Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans, this option turns OpenAI’s AI into an interactive guide that adapts responses to the student’s level, encourages active participation, and promotes deep understanding of the topics. 

The main difference lies in the educational approach. While traditional ChatGPT delivers direct answers, study mode provides a guided experience: it asks questions, gives hints, guides user thinking, and breaks down complex explanations into simple parts.

It also uses pedagogical techniques like Socratic questioning and personalized feedback to strengthen learning. 

Study mode is designed for tasks such as solving math problems step by step, preparing for exams with guided questions, learning theory from scratch in subjects like biology, history, accounting, or game theory, and receiving feedback on progress.

It allows users to adjust the difficulty level, switch between simple or advanced explanations, and turn the mode on or off depending on their goals. 

Developed in collaboration with teachers, scientists, and educators, the tool is based on research about how people learn best.
