Leaders of Chile, Singapore, and New Zealand signed a historic pact to promote a greener, more sustainable, and resilient economy.
During the APEC 2025 summit held in the Republic of Korea, Chilean President Gabriel Boric signed the Green Economy Partnership Agreement (GEPA) on Friday, October 31, alongside Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
Representing Chile, Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren signed the agreement, which aims to enhance cooperation among the three nations on green economy initiatives, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development.
In his speech, President Boric stressed the urgency of taking decisive action against the climate crisis.
“In various international forums, I have emphasized the need to act with greater determination and set more ambitious goals for the transition toward greener economies. We must move toward development models that respect both our environment and those who live within it,” he said.

Boric warned about the global emergency, referring to the “triple planetary crisis: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss,” and highlighted that Chile, Singapore, and New Zealand are “particularly vulnerable” to its impacts.
The Chilean president emphasized that the three countries “share common values and commitments” and expressed confidence that the agreement will become a global reference point.
“I know that other nations are watching what we are doing, and to some extent, we are setting an example in green economy efforts,” he added.
The GEPA will focus on promoting sustainable trade, responsible investment, and green finance among the three nations, strengthening their strategic cooperation in the global transition toward a more sustainable future.
