Parliament in Venezuela is set to approve an amnesty backed by Delcy Rodríguez, reshaping the post-Maduro political landscape.
Venezuela’s ruling party announced that all remaining political prisoners will be released next week, following the final approval of a sweeping amnesty law.
“Everyone will be released on Tuesday,” said parliamentary speaker Jorge Rodríguez, confirming that the bill will pass its second and final reading on that day. Given the government’s total control of parliament, the vote is widely seen as a formality.
The statement was made during a meeting with families of detainees outside the Zona 7 police holding facility.
Rodríguez said that once the law is approved, releases will be immediate. Among those expected to benefit is Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who has been detained in Venezuela for more than a year.

The amnesty initiative is being driven by the new leadership of the ruling movement, headed by interim president Delcy Rodríguez, who took over following the capture of Maduro in a U.S.-led military operation in early January. Since then, the government has faced intense international pressure to ease repression and address human rights concerns.
The bill, already approved in its first reading, covers nearly three decades of chavismo and applies to charges such as treason, terrorism and incitement to hatred—offenses frequently used against political opponents.
While hundreds of detainees have already been released, human rights groups say the final passage of the law could dramatically accelerate the process.
Families of prisoners welcomed the announcement with cautious optimism, while legal experts praised the law’s tone but warned against granting impunity for serious human rights abuses.
Key questions remain, including whether prominent opposition leaders will be included, a decision that will define the true scope of this unprecedented political shift.
