Argentina hosted its first Artificial Intelligence Week with innovation and global cooperation

Argentina’s first artificial intelligence week concluded after five days of activities, featuring over 30 conferences, panels, and workshops with speakers from 24 countries.

The event, now a regional milestone, addressed key topics such as AI governance, advanced connectivity, productive transformation, and the impact of technology on public services.

The closing ceremony was attended by Darío Genua, Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology, and Demian Reidel, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Advisory Council. Both emphasized the importance of positioning Argentina as a hub for artificial intelligence development in the region.

Throughout the week, participants showcased innovative case studies in sectors including commerce, healthcare, telecommunications, and public services. The event also created opportunities for international networking, fostering strategic alliances and collaborative projects with industry leaders.

A major highlight was the second edition of the Private Sector AI Roundtable, bringing together global companies such as Microsoft, Globant, IBM, Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Meta, Mercado Libre, and Telecom.

In his opening remarks, Genua stated: “We are building the foundation for Argentina to become a hub for artificial intelligence development, with an impact on both business innovation and the improvement of public services.”

He also announced that the government is organizing an inter-ministerial roundtable to coordinate AI strategies and use cases, aligning public policies with private sector efforts to drive technological growth.

Another key moment was the Pitch Day of the “Transformative AI – Artificial Intelligence Innovation Award.” Out of more than 50 projects submitted, ten startups reached the final stage, evaluated by a jury composed of academics, public officials, and entrepreneurs.

The winning project was Retinar, a web platform using AI to improve access to ophthalmological exams aimed at preventing blindness from diabetic retinopathy.

ts solution enables trained technicians to capture retinal images in decentralized locations, delivering instant pre-diagnoses powered by AI, regardless of ophthalmologist availability.

Special mentions went to RDCom, a platform that accelerates the diagnosis and monitoring of rare diseases with AI-powered tools for physicians and personalized follow-ups, and to Dental IA, an innovative solution within the 4P Medicine framework (Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, and Participatory) that analyzes dental X-rays with AI.

This tool enables early detection of systemic-related pathologies, reduces costs, and expands access to quality care, especially in underserved regions.

Before the awards were announced, Paula Nahirñak, Undersecretary of Science and Technology, highlighted: “We want to be close to the private sector and support the creation of technology-based companies. Our goal is to transform scientific knowledge into real solutions.”

In summary, Argentina’s first artificial intelligence week underscored the country’s ambition to position itself at the forefront of regional innovation, fostering an ecosystem where academia, government, startups, and industry converge to generate positive impact on society.
