The Indian film industry was shaken after news broke that Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was stabbed during the early hours of the morning at his residence in Mumbai. The 54-year-old actor is currently hospitalized and recovering after undergoing delicate surgery.

Attack occurred around 2 a.m. when an intruder managed to enter the luxury apartment Khan shares with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, and their two children. The family was asleep at the time and was awakened by a security alarm inside the residence.

According to Mumbai police, the actor confronted the attacker, leading to a violent struggle during which Khan was stabbed multiple times.

A female domestic worker was also injured while attempting to intervene and is receiving medical treatment.Investigators are now examining a troubling possibility: that a member of Khan’s own security staff may have helped the assailant gain access to the property.

Police sources believe the intruder bypassed both private guards and the building’s surveillance system in what appears to have been an attempted robbery. The apartment is located in Bandra, an upscale neighborhood popular among Bollywood celebrities.

Hospitalization and progress of Bollywood star

Following the incident, Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday, January 16. Doctors confirmed he sustained six stab wounds, including two deep injuries to his back and minor wounds to his neck and hands, likely caused during the struggle.

Dr. Niraj Uttamani, chief operating officer of the hospital, stated that the actor is out of danger and currently in intensive care. “The injuries were treated successfully, and his recovery is progressing well. We expect to move him to a general ward within a day or two,” he said.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, who performed the operation, described the procedure as highly delicate, as the knife was lodged near the spinal column. “We successfully removed the foreign object and repaired the affected area without further neurological complications,” he explained.

After the surgery, Kareena Kapoor was seen arriving at the hospital under heavy security. In an official statement, Khan’s representatives assured the public that the entire family is safe and thanked fans and colleagues across Bollywood for their support.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are considered one of the most prominent couples in Indian cinema, often referred to as Bollywood royalty.

Khan rose to fame with films such as Hum Tum, Race and Ta Ra Rum Pum, while Kapoor starred in major hits including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Jab We Met and Heroine.

The incident has reignited discussions in India about celebrity security and highlighted vulnerabilities even within highly protected environments.
