The government of Australia announced the construction of the world’s largest solar energy facility, located in the remote northern region of the country. The SunCable installation will have an installed capacity of four gigawatts for domestic use and an additional two gigawatts to be exported to Singapore. 

Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek highlighted that the solar plant will supply energy to three million households, positioning Australia as a global leader in renewable energy. The project is also expected to generate 14,300 new jobs in the region, supporting local economic development. 

The facility will cover 12,000 hectares in the Northern Territory, benefiting from optimal solar radiation to maximize energy production. Technology magnate and environmental activist Mike Cannon-Brookes supports the initiative, which combines technological innovation with environmental responsibility. 

Energy experts note that the project is innovative due to its large-scale electricity export plans. Ken Baldwin, director of the Energy Change Institute at the Australian National University, emphasized that Australia possesses exceptional solar and wind resources, and projects like SunCable accelerate the shift toward cleaner, more sustainable energy. 

Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the Climate Council, described the project as a crucial step in transforming Australia into a clean energy powerhouse. Exporting electricity to Singapore represents not only an economic opportunity but also a model of international cooperation in addressing climate change.
