OpenAI unveils ChatGPT-5: a leap in artificial intelligence for all users

OpenAI, a global leader in artificial intelligence, officially announced its plans for the upcoming ChatGPT-5, promising a qualitative leap in the capabilities of its language models. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, shared details during the AI Action Summit in Paris and on his social media accounts.

Altman emphasized that the company aims to simplify its product line, which has grown complex in recent years. “We hate the model selector as much as you do and want to return to magical unified intelligence,” he said, referring to the goal of integrating all available tools into a single cohesive system.

OpenAI plans to first release GPT-4.5, considered the “last model without chain-of-thought,” and then launch GPT-5. The latter will integrate OpenAI’s most advanced technology, including tools like o3, eliminating the need for independent models. This approach is designed to provide a more versatile and efficient platform for all types of users.

Regarding availability, Altman explained that free ChatGPT users will have unlimited access to the chat with “standard intelligence settings.” Plus subscribers will access GPT-5 with a “higher intelligence level,” while Pro users will enjoy an even more advanced level, optimized for complex tasks and in-depth analysis.

The exact release date for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 was not disclosed, but Altman estimated it could occur within weeks or months. He made clear that ChatGPT will not be for sale, and OpenAI has no plans to operate as a private for-profit lab.

Meanwhile, Altman publicly responded to Elon Musk’s $97 billion offer to acquire OpenAI. “I don’t think he’s a happy person. I really feel sorry for him,” he said, highlighting that Musk’s attempt is an effort to slow OpenAI’s artificial intelligence progress.

Platform launch

Altman reaffirmed that the best competition comes from building superior products, not acquisitions or external control.

The ChatGPT-5 announcement underscores OpenAI’s ambition to remain a global leader in artificial intelligence, offering tools that enhance productivity and research while remaining accessible and safe for all users. According to Altman, this technological integration will be key to ensuring ethical and effective artificial intelligence development.

OpenAI continues to innovate with ChatGPT-5, a system designed to redefine the limits of artificial intelligence and transform how professionals, students, and businesses interact with advanced ChatGPT technology.
