Real Madrid secured the Champions League 2023-24 trophy with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side claimed their 15th European Cup undefeated, thanks to late goals from Daniel Carvajal and Vinícius, capping a match that had been extremely challenging in the first half.
This win marked the 15th Champions League title for Real Madrid, also serving as a fitting farewell for Toni Kroos, who celebrated by proudly pointing to the club’s crest.
Borussia Dortmund dominated the opening 45 minutes, leaving Real Madrid with virtually no clear scoring chances and putting the Spanish side’s resilience to the test. The German team had a missed one-on-one opportunity and a shot that hit the post.
Karim Adeyemi tried to beat Courtois but was stopped by Carvajal, while Niclas Füllkrug also struck the crossbar, causing concern for Ancelotti as his team struggled to find rhythm. Courtois shone with two crucial saves, keeping Real Madrid in the game.
The second half saw a shift in momentum. Carvajal attempted a volley from distance, blocked by Dortmund’s defense, signaling that change was coming. A powerful shot from Kroos was also denied by keeper Gregor Kobel, but gradually Real Madrid began to settle into the match, demonstrating the composure and efficiency that have defined their success in crucial moments.
The breakthrough came from a Kroos corner, with Carvajal attacking the near post to beat the defense and open the scoring. From that point, pressure swung to Dortmund, who eventually made mistakes that allowed Vinícius to score the decisive 2-0 after a pass from Jude Bellingham.
With this victory, Real Madrid reinforces its status as the most successful club in European Cup history. The team now prepares for the 2024 Super Cup against Atalanta, the Europa League champions featuring Juan Musso and José Luis Palomino, at Warsaw’s National Stadium on August 14.
