The 2025 winter transfer window is making waves with big-money deals: PSG secures Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, while Manchester City leads the way with over $150 million spent.
The January 2025 transfer market is moving fast, with deals generating both money and excitement.
So far, the headline move has been the transfer of Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who left Napoli to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for $72.88 million.
Still, the spotlight belongs to Manchester City, which has invested around $158.56 million in three key signings aimed at reshaping its squad.
One of City’s most notable acquisitions is 20-year-old Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov, signed from RC Lens for $41.65 million. With this move, he becomes the first player from Uzbekistan to feature in the Premier League.
Alongside him, 19-year-old Brazilian prospect Vitor Reis joined from Palmeiras in a deal worth $38.52 million. The biggest splash, however, was the $78.39 million signing of Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, brought in to provide cover and competition for Erling Haaland.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa added Dutch striker Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund, while Brazilian forward Luiz Henrique, voted South America’s best player in 2024, signed with Zenit Saint Petersburg for $34.36 million.
Beyond England, there were other high-profile loans. Argentine World Cup winner Thiago Almada moved from Botafogo to Lyon, though his new club faces serious financial issues that could affect its place in Ligue 1.
In Italy, Juventus secured French forward Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG as he looks to revive his form after struggling for minutes in Paris.
Meanwhile, veteran English defender Kyle Walker ended his long stay at City, joining AC Milan on loan after eight years and 17 trophies in Manchester.
In Spain, Real Betis surprised many by taking Brazilian winger Antony on loan from Manchester United, giving him a chance to regain confidence after a difficult spell.
With the window closing soon, the 2025 winter market shows once again that the Premier League and PSG are setting both the financial and sporting pace in European football.
