The Dallas ICE shooting highlights rising political violence in the United States, leaving one dead and two immigrants seriously injured.

Bullets with anti-ICE messages found after Texas attack on immigration office leaves one detainee dead

The discovery of bullets inscribed with anti-ICE messages at the site of a Dallas shooting has raised concerns over the growing violence targeting immigration authorities in the United States.

The early-morning incident left one detainee dead and two others seriously wounded, intensifying debates over the safety of detention centers for immigrants and the political climate surrounding deportations.

Identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, opened fire from a nearby rooftop, indiscriminately targeting the ICE office and an unmarked van parked nearby.

He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities recovered ammunition marked “ANTI-ICE,” confirming his explicit hostility toward the agency.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the probe. No agents were injured, though fear spread quickly among the immigrant community.

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that one of the injured is a Mexican national, while pro-immigrant groups in Texas voiced alarm at the escalating violence.

President Donald Trump called the attack “despicable” and blamed “radical leftists” for fueling violence against law enforcement. On his Truth Social platform, he urged Democrats to stop rhetoric he says “demonizes” ICE agents.

A wave of attacks on ICE

This was not an isolated incident. In recent months, ICE facilities have faced a wave of violent episodes. Shots were fired at offices in San Antonio, while in Alvarado, a July 4 protest turned violent, leaving an officer shot in the neck. In August, a man entered an ICE building claiming to have a bomb detonator, sparking panic.

The Dallas field office targeted in this attack is used primarily for short-term processing rather than long-term detention. Still, for many activists, it stands as a symbol of harsher immigration policies.

Witnesses like Venezuelan resident Edwin Cardona described terrifying moments: “I was scared for my family because they were outside. Thank God nothing happened to them,” he said.

Debate over the future of ICE continues to polarize the United States. Supporters view its operations as vital for national security and immigration enforcement. Critics argue it criminalizes immigrants and fuels xenophobia.

With the investigation ongoing, analysts warn that violence against ICE reflects a broader political environment marked by rising tensions. Amid the government’s push for mass deportations, the risk of further violent clashes shows no sign of easing.
